Francis Mer Joins the Board of Directors of LFB S.A.

Les Ulis, July 29, 2009 – The French biopharmaceutical group LFB S.A. announces that Francis Mer has joined its Board of Directors as a new member in his capacity as a qualified individual.

Francis Mer, former Minister of the Economy and Finances and current Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Safran Group, was appointed by decree on July 8, 2009 published in the Official Journal. He replaces Marie-Danièle Campion, Chancellor of the Academy of Rouen, on the Board of Directors of LFB S.A.

Francis Mer is a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and engineer in the Corps des Mines. He entered the Saint-Gobain Pont-à-Mousson Group in 1970 and went on to become the Director of Saint-Gobain Industrie (1974-1978) before becoming the Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the Saint-Gobain Group in charge of industrial policy in 1978. In 1982, he was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pont-à-Mousson SA and Director of the Pipe and Engineering Division of the Saint-Gobain Group.

In 1986, the French State, the main shareholder, decided to merge Usinor and Sacilor and appointed Francis Mer as President of the new steel group. In 1995, Usinor Sacilor was privatized and Francis Mer was appointed President by the new Board of Directors in October 1995.

He was the President of Cockerill Sambre from 1999 to 2002.

Francis Mer was President of the French Steel Federation (FFA) from 1988 to 2002.

He also presided over Eurofer (the European steelmakers association) from 1990 to 1997, the International Iron and Steel Institution (IISI) from 1997 to 1998, the National Technical Research Association (ANRT) from 1991 to 2002, the Enterprise for the Environment (EPE) and the Industry Circle. He was Co-Chairman of the Arcelor Group, the company resulting from the merger between Arbed, Aceralia and Usinor. Francis Mer was Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industry from May 2002 to March 2004.

Francis Mer has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Safran since January 2007.
