The job of fractionator
From human plasma to therapeutic proteins: fractionation
The aim of plasma fractionation is to purify certain proteins that are present in small quantities in plasma, such as, for example, albumin, immunoglobulins and clotting factors, which are all essential for our body. Once they have been isolated and purified, these proteins become highly characterized, safe drugs that are available to health professionals. Every year in France, these drugs are used to treat hundreds of thousands of patients with serious and rare diseases, mainly in the hospital environment.

60 to 80 g of proteins only in 1 litre of plasma
The processes designed to purify plasma proteins use high-precision technologies. One of the manufacturing challenges lies in developing innovative purification processes in order to continually increase the safety of plasma-derived drugs, while maintaining the natural biological properties of the proteins and their therapeutic benefit for patients.
Manufacturing processes include several purification and safety steps and are part of a general control system in France that provides one of the highest levels of safety in the world, from the donor to the patient.
